Ilham Altalib is a founding member and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ikram – Foundation for Empowerment of Muslim Women. Her experience as an activist and community organizer in the United States is an invaluable asset to Ikram. Ilham holds a medical degree from Baghdad University where she specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. In the United States she expanded her medical specialization to include pathology.
Dr. Ilham has been an activist and leading member in the Muslim community empowering and educating Muslim women and girls since the early 1960’s. She pioneered the organization and establishment of numerous educational and religious retreats for Muslim women and girls around the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Sudan, Malawi, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the United States.
Margaret Farchtchi is a founding member of Ikram – Foundation
Margaret Farchtchi is a founding member of Ikram – Foundation for Empowerment of Muslim Women. Her career as an accountant has spanned four decades. Her expertise in nonprofit accounting and financial reporting is a valuable asset to Ikram. Margaret graduated in 1974 from Northeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Accounting with a minor in Biology. Between 1977 – 2001 she worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Margaret is currently retired but remains actively engaged by assisting several nonprofit organizations with her leadership and experience. Margaret is passionate about empowering women interested in maximizing their potential.
Salwa Medani joined Ikram’s Board of Directors because of her

Salwa Medani joined Ikram’s Board of Directors because of her firm belief in the Foundation’s fundamental principle, namely empowering women through education. She strongly believes that an educated woman is able to contribute to the prosperity and well-being of her family. Ms. Medani currently works as the Media Manager of a non-profit organization. She has been a member in several committees at a local private school and regularly volunteers at her daughters’ Girl Scouts troops. Ms. Medani has a Master’s degree in English (Linguistics) from George Mason University.
Rahat Ahmad is Secretary of the Board of Directors of

Rahat Ahmad is Secretary of the Board of Directors of Ikram – Foundation for Empowerment of Muslim Women. She brings a wealth of experience as a volunteer in the Northern Virginia Muslim community for over 30 years in various capacities including involvement in ADAMS Center (All Dulles Area Muslim Society) from its earliest stages. Currently, she serves as a member of the ADAMS Health Sub-committee and remains active in providing lectures, participating in discussion on the Quran, and assisting with events benefiting the Muslim community.
Rahat is a Microbiologist with a Master’s degree and formerly spent years as the Head of Microbiology Department at St. Joseph’s Women’s College in Karachi, Pakistan.
