Ikram‘s programs are designed to support its primary goal of helping to alleviate financial hardship among divorced or widowed Muslim women through education.
We offer several education-related financial assistance programs. Any Muslim woman living in the United States who has experienced divorce or widowhood interested in any of the following programs is encouraged to apply. The application can be found under the education grants tab. We will begin accepting applications for our educational grants program beginning in November, 2014.
- College/University Degree Seeking
- Vocational Institutions (for example, culinary, IT, cosmetology, caregiver, ect.)
- Interest-free Educational Loans
- Student Loan Re-payment Assistance
- Professional Accreditation and Certification Assistance
- Research Grants
In addition to financial assistance we will be offering seminars, workshops, and training programs. These programs will be designed to educate and inform women, families, and communities on issues impacting divorced and widowed Muslim women in the United States. Specific topics will be determined after completion of needs assessment surveys to identify the interests and needs of divorced and widowed Muslim women.
Support services will also be offered to assist clients in the process of re-defining and setting goals. Groups will be formed to provide women a safe place to examine vulnerabilities, build confidence and self-esteem, explore options, and set goals. Volunteers will work with prospective students who need assistance navigating applications from admissions to financial aid. Career counseling will help clients translate their interests and experience into viable academic and/or career paths.
